The leader of the Democratic minority in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, has not ruled out that the US “will have to intervene” in the war in Ukraine. He said this in an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes programme, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Jeffries said that the United States must continue to support Ukraine to prevent a wider war, and he blamed the “pro-Putin faction” in the Republican Party for the delay in aid to fight Russia.

He did not rule out the possibility that the US would have to intervene in the war against Russia “not only with American money, but also with the military” if Ukraine falls.

“We can’t let Ukraine fall, because if it does, there’s a strong possibility that America will have to intervene in the conflict – not just with our money, but with our military,” he explained,

– he explained.

According to him, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin seeks to seize more territories of other countries in order to allegedly “recreate” the Soviet Union. That is why he will continue to threaten NATO allies.

Jeffries recalled that Putin’s invasion of neighbouring Georgia did not end there, nor did his seizure of Ukrainian territory in Crimea and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions back in 2014.

He believes that the Kremlin’s “consistent aggression” will “continue”.

“Are we to believe that in the face of this kind of consistent aggression, that if we allow Vladimir Putin to succeed in Ukraine, he will stop with Ukraine? Of course not,”

– Jeffries concluded.
