Kremlin names the main condition for the start of peace talks

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO is a key demand of Moscow in the context of possible peace talks. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“For us, this is one of the key elements of a possible agreement on the conflict in Ukraine, an element related to the elimination of the root causes of this conflict. And we will seek not only ironclad international legal guarantees that would exclude Ukraine’s membership in NATO in any form, but also insist that this also become the policy of the alliance itself,”
– said the Deputy Minister.
He emphasized that Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO
“excludes the achievement of peace in Ukraine and, in a broader sense, the creation of at least some kind of security architecture.”
The deputy minister called the decision of the Bucharest NATO summit, which confirmed at the highest level the alliance’s intention to accept Ukraine and Georgia, “catastrophic for European security.”
“Failure to withdraw this wording will create ambiguity, which is absolutely unacceptable for us when we talk about the need to achieve a viable, sustainable, ironclad settlement of the conflict in and around Ukraine,” he said,
– grushko said.

At the same time, the Kremlin said that Putin is ready for contacts with US President Donald Trump.
“Putin is ready, we are waiting for signals, everyone is ready. That’s why it’s hard to guess on coffee grounds. As soon as it happens, if something happens, we will inform you.”
– kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the likelihood of such contacts.
In addition, he responded to Trump’s thesis that Russia will not be able to continue the war with low oil prices. Peskov claims that oil prices have nothing to do with it.
“This conflict is happening because of the threat to the national security of the Russian Federation, because of the threat to Russians living in known territories, and because of the unwillingness and complete refusal of the Americans and Europeans to listen to Russia’s concerns, and it has nothing to do with oil prices,”
– peskov said.
The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to conclude an agreement to end the war against Ukraine. Otherwise, Russia will face high taxes and new US sanctions, he said. Trump also argues that a decline in oil prices would guarantee the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as Russia would then have no resources to continue it.
“I want to ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower the price of oil. I wonder why they didn’t do it earlier. If the price had gone down, Russia’s war against Ukraine would have ended quickly,”
– Trump said.
