Russia is not working on a truce with Ukraine. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing, commenting on Kyiv’s proposal for an energy truce, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian propaganda media.
“I will leave the nuances. We are working on peace, not a truce. Sustainable peace achieved through the signing of documents is a priority,” he told reporters when asked to comment on the Ukrainian side’s statement.
The day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that an energy truce was possible if Russia was ready.
He also said that Ukraine was working on an updated US peace plan. The document will be submitted to the American side in the near future, the Ukrainian leader added.
In November, the Ukrainian delegation at a discussion of the US peace plan in Geneva called a ceasefire a condition for starting negotiations on the exchange of territories with Russia.
The US peace plan
As a reminder, the administration of US President Donald Trump has prepared a draft peace agreement, which is proposed as a basis for ending the war. The initial version contained 28 points.
Among them were: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from part of the Donbas, including the areas currently under Ukrainian control. It also called for limiting or reducing the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – the original version called for its reduction.
After criticism from both Ukraine and the EU, the document was partially revised: instead of 28 points, it now contains about 20.
Ukrainian and American delegations continue consultations, trying to agree on the basic principles of a possible peaceful settlement.
Recently, Ukrainian representatives held another round of talks with the American side on a peace plan after Trump’s representatives, Steve Vitkoff and Jared Kushner, discussed peace proposals with dictator Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
on December 6, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a two-hour phone conversation with Vitkoff and Kushner. According to Axios sources, the parties discussed territories and security guarantees. An agreement was actually reached on the second issue.
Meanwhile, Trump recently said he was disappointed that the Ukrainian leader had not yet read the new draft of the US peace agreement.
