Turki Al Al-Sheikh, the head of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Entertainment, announced on social media that he had acquired The Ring magazine. The previous owner, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, confirmed the sale of the magazine for $10 million. This was reported by BoxingScene, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the publication, the new owner has previously expressed his dissatisfaction with certain boxing ratings, and it is believed that he has long sought to create a better system.

The Ring, founded by Nat Fleischer in 1922, has retained its importance due to its respected ratings, which are determined by an independent panel of prominent boxing figures.

“The magazine will be completely independent, with brilliant writers and focusing on every aspect of boxing,” assured Turki Al Al Sheikh and stated his intention to restore the old mechanism of The Ring Rankings with a fully independent group that is in line with the golden era of The Ring magazine.

The new owner of The Ring also shared plans to introduce a special annual awards ceremony and digitize the magazine’s extensive archives.

Speaking to Forbes, De La Hoya explained the sale: “He made an offer we couldn’t refuse. Now it’s in good hands.”

It is expected that after the purchase, The Ring will be published in print again, which has not been the case since 2022. The print version will be headed by current editor-in-chief Doug Fisher, while Rick Reno, founder of BoxingScene, will be responsible for the website.
