Several stations on the Blue Line of the Kyiv Metro are being prepared for closure. We are talking about Pochayna and Taras Shevchenko. There are also questions about the technical condition of Poshtova Square, which is experiencing a high load due to heavy traffic, an unfinished road junction, and office buildings. A source in the Kyiv City State Administration told Komersant Ukrayinsky https://www.komersant.info/.

According to the source, the issue of Poshtova Square is still being considered at the level of expert discussion. The closure of Pochayna and Taras Shevchenko is inevitable.

“They need to be repaired not only because of wear and tear and, accordingly, the need for scheduled maintenance, but also because of cracks and moisture seepage. Groundwater, precipitation, and the resulting destruction are actually not only problems of these two stations. The problems are the same as those of the Teremky metro stations, but on a smaller scale so far,”

– summed up the Ukrainian source of Kommersant https://www.komersant.info/

The Kyiv Metro itself also confirms that the Blue Line stations are indeed on the list of facilities that are being prepared for scheduled repairs. However, they do not specify the exact dates when the stations will be closed and how long the repairs will last.

According to preliminary information, it is the repair of sections of the tunnels along the first main track at Pochayna and Tarasa Shevchenko.

As reported earlier, the State Audit Service of Ukraine, during an audit of the Kyiv Metro utility, found violations and losses worth more than UAH 200 million.

It should be noted that on 8 December 2023, an accident occurred at the overrunning tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska stations due to depressurisation of the tunnel and cracks in the walls. The case is now being investigated by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The repair of Lybidska and Demiivska metro stations will cost almost UAH 400 million.

We would like to add that the director of Kyiv Metro, Viktor Braginsky, resigned after investigative journalists from Bihus.Info discovered that his mother owns two apartments in the capital, and his ex-wife owns luxury real estate and a land plot.

What is known about Pochaina and Tarasa Shevchenko stations

“Tarasa Shevchenka is the 19th station of the Kyiv Metro. It is located on the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line between Pochayna and Kontraktova Ploshcha stations. It was opened on 19 December 1980.

The station has one lobby combined with an underground passage to Mezhyhirska Street.

According to the long-term plan for the development of the metro, in the future the station should become part of the transfer hub to Podilska station of the Podilsko-Vyhurivska line. The project envisages the construction of two transfer hubs equipped with stairs, escalators and lifts. Taras Shevchenko station will be reconstructed.

Pochayna is the 20th station of the Kyiv Metro. It is located on the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line between Obolon and Tarasa Shevchenko stations. It was opened on 19 December 1980. Until 2018, it was called Petrivka.

“Pochayna is an important transport hub for Kyiv residents living on the Left Bank
