The Museum of Prominent Ukrainian Cultural Figures Lesya Ukrainka, Mykola Lysenko, Panas Saksaganskii and Mykhailo Staritskyi plans to spend over UAH 19 million from the state budget to restore a historical monument: the house at 96 Zhylianska Street, where film director Panas Saksaganskii lived and which was damaged in a Russian attack. This was reported by Kommersant Ukrainian .
The auction is scheduled to take place on 1 July, and the restoration work is to be completed by 31 December 2025. According to the tender documents, the building is to undergo preparatory work, repair the facade and roof, fill cracks in the brick walls, reinforce the outer walls of the building and carry out other construction work.
Earlier this year, a similar tender was already attempted, but at a cheaper price of UAH 12 million. The tender was cancelled due to a lack of bids.
Last year, a scandal erupted around the historic building: public figures claimed that the building was in danger of destruction and had been in need of repair for many years.
In addition, there were plans to build a multi-storey building next to the building. The tenant was going to build a hotel, office and residential complex and a car park. As a result, the developer was denied the lease, but the building was never repaired.

The building at 96 Zhylianska Street
The house at 96 Zhylianska Street in Kyiv is a four-storey brick residential building built in 1908. It has an L-shape, a basement and pits on the street side. The façade of the building is decorated with patterned brickwork and intricate balcony railings. A special feature is the arched end of the window openings on the third floor.
The house is known for the fact that from 1912 to 1940, the prominent Ukrainian actor, director and theatre worker Panas Saksahansky (Tobilevych) lived here. In his honour, a memorial plaque was erected on the facade of the building in 1963, which was replaced with a bronze plaque in 1972. In 2018, this plaque was stolen.
The house is a monument of architecture and history of Kyiv.
