Air quality has deteriorated in Kyiv: when it is better not to open windows
24 July 2024 20:12
The air in Kyiv has deteriorated significantly: the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide is approaching and exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations. This was was reported by the “Ukrhydrometcentre, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
The presence of poisonous gas will exceed the maximum permissible concentrations by five times, which can adversely affect people’s health. The hot, dry and low-air weather will contribute to the accumulation of other pollutants (sulphur dioxide and formaldehyde) in the surface air layer.
The situation is expected to improve on 29 and 30 July 2024.

It should be noted that the SaveEcoBot system, which collects data on the air quality in the capital from 378 online monitoring stations, has not yet reported a significant deterioration in its quality. The air quality index calculated using the NowCast formula (US EPA) for the main air pollutant – fine dust of 2.5 microns – in Kyiv as of 19:00, 24 July 2024 is 20. This is a good level of air pollution that has a minimal impact on human health.
Only one monitoring station, located at 2a Pshenychna Street, recorded a moderate level of pollution. This may cause minor breathing discomfort for sensitive people.
