on January 30, 2025, new temperature records were set at meteorological stations in Kyiv region. The previous records had stood for almost a quarter of a century. This was reported by the Central Geophysical Observatory, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Thus, in Baryshivka, the temperature reached 9°C, while the previous record, set in 2002, was three degrees lower.

In Bila Tserkva, it was also 9°C. The previous record was also set almost a quarter of a century ago.

In Boryspil, the temperature fell just short of 9°C.

In Vyshhorod, the temperature even exceeded the regional average by 3 degrees and reached 12°C. This is 5 degrees higher than in 2002.

In Piskivka and Fastiv, the temperature was 10°C each, and in Chornobyl it was 9°C.

Meanwhile, nature has responded to this warming by cherry blossoming in Kyiv.

And Darnitsa utilities have already

The Department of Environmental Protection, however, is not too happy about this beauty. They claim that early flowering is harmful to plants.

“It should be understood that blooming “out of season” harms plants for several reasons: resources are depleted, there is a risk of frost damage, lack of pollinating insects in winter, disruption of the natural cycle, and reduced resistance to disease,”

– reported the KCSA.

However, the mayor’s office is not sitting idly by, but is preparing a new document for adaptation to climate change.

“The climate is really changing, and we realize the importance of adapting the capital to such changes. Now our Department is actively working on developing a comprehensive Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the city of Kyiv. This document will include a comprehensive assessment of vulnerabilities and risks, management of potential risks, and development of measures to increase the city’s resilience,”

– the statement said.
