Hot water supply temporarily restricted in Kyiv: what is the reason?

27 January 17:12

In Kyiv, the centralized supply of hot water to some residential buildings has been temporarily restricted due to the difficult energy situation following massive attacks by the Russian Federation.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Kyiv City State Administration.

The Kyiv City State Administration noted that the restrictions are a necessary measure to restore heat supply as quickly as possible. The freed-up thermal power is being directed specifically to restart and stabilize the heating system, as restarting it at low temperatures is a technically difficult process.

The situation remains particularly difficult in some buildings in the Desnianskyi district, where the heating system has to be restarted for the third time. In such conditions, keeping homes warm is a priority.

The city administration emphasized that the restrictions on hot water supply do not apply to the entire housing stock of the capital, but only to those buildings where it is necessary for technical reasons.

“This is a necessary and temporary step to deal with the aftermath of enemy attacks, restore heat in homes, and stabilize the power grid,” the Kyiv City State Administration said.

After a massive nighttime strike by Russia on critical infrastructure, the most acute situation with utilities in Kyiv remains in Troieshchyna.

As of January 24 , about 600 residential buildings remained without electricity, heating, and water supply.

DTEK reports that this area is currently experiencing the most problems due to regular shelling.

Additional warming centers are being set up in the Desnianskyi district, including support locations where residents can stay both during the day and at night. In addition, State Emergency Service rescuers are setting up additional tents for warming in the courtyards of high-rise buildings.

Two tent cities have also been set up in Troieshchyna due to the lack of stable heat and electricity supply. Each of them has six tents designed to temporarily accommodate up to 40 people. There, people can warm up, recharge their gadgets, and rest. The tent cities will operate until the heat supply is fully restored.
