Quarantine introduced in Kyiv: what happened
4 September 2024 18:30
Kyiv has introduced quarantine due to the spread of ragweed. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Kyiv City State Administration.
A set of special measures will be taken throughout the capital to eradicate ragweed, the KCSA said.
- During the quarantine regime:
- ragweed will be plucked, mown and burned;
- plant perennial grasses that can suppress this dangerous weed;
- use herbicides that are officially permitted in Ukraine.
Ragweed is an annual plant that can reach 2 metres. It is a strong allergen. Ragweed pollen is particularly dangerous. When it gets on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, it causes severe irritation and allergies up to asthmatic attacks.
Symptoms of a reaction to ragweed bloom include a runny nose, red and itchy eyes, watery eyes, itchy skin, wheezing in the chest, cough, irritation and sore throat.
At the first sign of an allergy, consult a doctor to prescribe antihistamines and other medications that can alleviate the patient’s condition.
