In Lubny, a man threw a grenade into the crowd and then blew himself up

On Sunday, 8 September, at around 23:00, a grenade exploded in Lubny near a supermarket on Monastyrska Street. The incident killed one person and injured three local residents. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the press service of the Poltava regional police.

According to the head of the Lubny district police department, Yevhen Karpets, an unknown man threw an explosive object at a group of people and fled. Three of the victims, aged 30-40, were taken to the Lubny Intensive Care Hospital.

The police found out that a 53-year-old local resident was involved in the explosion. His body with numerous injuries was found near the scene. Preliminarily, he was killed by the explosion. The body was sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.

The police opened criminal proceedings over the incident on the grounds of a criminal offence under Part 2 of Article 15, Clause 1 of Part 2 of Article 115 (completed attempted murder of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In addition, investigators are investigating the death of the defendant in a criminal proceeding under Part 1 of Article 115 (Murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation is establishing the causes and circumstances of the incident.
