In Lviv, a new accident at the main water supply system has left about 50,000 Lviv residents without water supply, which is about 10% of the city’s population. Residents of the Zaliznychnyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts remain without water.
This was reported by the press service of the Lviv City Council, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the city council, Lvivvodokanal emergency crews are working at the site of the damage together with the company’s management and the Department of Housing and Communal Services to coordinate the work. Currently, the pressure in the system is insufficient for a stable water supply, and the repair work continues.
According to Lvivvodokanal, new accidents are caused by water hammer: after the pipes are emptied, water fills the network again under pressure, and old pipes break in the weakest places.
Water trucks are delivering drinking water to residents, and their work has been extended until the centralized water supply is fully restored.
“About 50,000 Lviv residents are without water – Ryasne-1, Ryasne-2, part of Levandivka and Shevchenkivskyi district. “Lvivvodokanal is already performing emergency repairs. The problem arose because of old pipes: a gust occurred after the water supply was restarted following a previous accident. To replace all the pipes, we need UAH 10 billion, which we do not have yet, as about 30 km of pipes were replaced this year,” said First Deputy Mayor Andriy Moskalenko.
The company emphasizes that it is doing everything necessary to restore water supply. The cost of complete replacement of all networks in Lviv exceeds UAH 10 billion
