Lviv wants to add “Our Father” prayer to the minute of silence
6 August 2025 10:08
A petition to the Lviv City Council has been registered on the platform of the unified system of local petitions DEM, which proposes to supplement the daily minute of silence at 9:00 am with a public reading of the Our Father prayer. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
The initiative was submitted by Lviv resident Olena Lysenko on August 5, 2025.
The essence of the proposal
A daily minute of silence at 9:00 am has become an important tradition in Ukrainian cities during a full-scale war. This ritual symbolizes respect for the fallen defenders of Ukraine and all victims of Russian aggression.
The author of the petition proposes that the Lviv City Council make a decision to introduce a new practice in the city’s public space. According to the initiative, after the traditional minute of silence, the prayer “Our Father” should be publicly recited in Lviv.

Olena Lysenko justifies her proposal by saying that this practice is
“…an appeal to God in faith, unity, and awareness of responsibility for the future. This is a simple form of spiritual attitude that does not contradict freedom of conscience, but can strengthen the internal connection of the community, establish strength, peace and truth in people.”
Current status of the petition
As of August 6, 2025, 30 people out of the required 500 have signed the petition. There are 59 days left to collect signatures. If the petition is supported by 500 people, it should be considered by the Lviv City Council.
For some reason, the petition is posted in the section “city improvement and construction.”
The petition can be signed by registered users of the e-dem.ua platform. The initiative is implemented within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian program “E-Governance for Government Accountability and Community Participation” (EGAP).
