A soldier from the Territorial Defense Forces was fatally wounded in Lviv; the suspected assailant has been detained

In Lviv, during mobilization activities, an unknown assailant stabbed a serviceman from the regional recruitment center in the neck; the serviceman died in the hospital from his injuries. Law enforcement officials are conducting a special operation to locate the attacker.
The incident was reported by Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration , according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
What happened
According to police , the attack occurred on April 2 at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Paton Street in Lviv.
During a public awareness event, an unknown man stabbed a serviceman from the Territorial Recruitment Center in the neck and then fled the scene.
The incident was reported to the 102 emergency hotline.
What is known about the victim’s condition
Medical personnel attempted to save the soldier, but the injury proved fatal.
According to Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the victim was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.
The official emphasized that the attacker must face inevitable punishment.
Search for the attacker
Following the attack, law enforcement announced a special police operation.
The following were involved in the search:
- criminal police operatives;
- investigators;
- patrol officers;
- personnel from other units.
Law enforcement officers have identified the suspect and determined their whereabouts.
What case was opened
Investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Section 8, Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional homicide.
The investigation is being conducted under the procedural supervision of the Frankivsk District Prosecutor’s Office in Lviv.
The penalty under this article provides for:
- 10 to 15 years of imprisonment,
- or life imprisonment.
The suspected assailant has been detained
According to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, police have detained a suspect in the murder of a serviceman in Lviv.
“It is a great tragedy when a person’s life is taken in a peaceful city. There is no excuse for this. There must be a fair and severe punishment!” Sadovyi wrote on Telegram.
