A terrorist attack took place in Lviv: what is known

On the night of February 22, a terrorist attack took place in Lviv. Law enforcement officers were injured in the explosions, and at least one female police officer was killed.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram account of Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

At least two explosions were heard in the center of Lviv last night. According to city council deputy Igor Zinkevich, the incident occurred on Shpitalna Street near the Magnus shopping center. However, at the time of the explosions, there were no alarms or threats in the sky for the region.

What local authorities and police are saying

According to Mayor Sadovyi, what happened in Lviv was a terrorist attack.

Prior to this, the National Police of Ukraine officially confirmed that law enforcement officers were among the dead and injured.

“The explosions occurred after patrol police arrived at the scene. All relevant services are working at the site. Details will follow,” the police reported.

The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the explosions and is investigating the incident as a terrorist act. According to the prosecutor’s office, police officers arrived at the scene, after which there were two explosions. Currently, a 23-year-old policewoman is known to have died.

“Today at 00:30, the number “102” received a report of a break-in at a store on Danilyshyn Street, 20 in Lviv. After the patrol police crew arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Upon the arrival of a second crew, another explosion occurred. It has been preliminarily established that a 23-year-old policewoman was killed. A patrol car and a civilian vehicle were damaged. The number of victims is being determined,” the post said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reports that the number of victims has risen to 15, and they are receiving assistance. He also confirmed the death of the female police officer.
