With the arrival of spring, the construction of fortifications in Ukraine has become more difficult.

This was stated by the head of the administration of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defence, Bohdan Bondar, during a telethon, Kommersant ukrainskyihttps://www.komersant.info/ reports.

He also clarified that the emphasis in the construction of fortifications has changed.

“The construction of fortifications was carried out on an ongoing basis. But, given the changes in the situation, it was decided to change the emphasis, to start building more stable equipment with additional elements that will reliably protect our soldiers to perform their combat missions,” he said.

According to the official, there should be a set of measures, not just fortifications and engineering measures.

“This includes strengthening air defence, we expect aviation to work and help fight against FABs and other precision weapons that the enemy has been using very actively lately. But these fortifications will help save lives and create the right conditions for our military to be able to adequately repel the enemy,” Bodnar said.

Among the problems, he also highlighted the natural conditions that do not allow them to fully perform their tasks because it is spring and groundwater is close.

“We have engaged the Armed Forces Engineers, the State Transport Service, regional state administrations and units working a little further from the contact line to the maximum extent possible. Soldiers on the front line are also involved. This work is being carried out every day. Every day there is destruction, we need to restore and build new structures. The enemy is constantly shelling and using FPV drones. We are rebuilding these structures to take into account the enemy’s new tactics,” said the Ministry of Defence spokesman.

As a reminder, on Monday, 11 March, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a regular meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, where, among other things, the construction of new defence lines was discussed. Zelensky said the task was to build three 2,000-kilometre-long defence lines.
