In Moscow, unknown individuals vandalized a memorial plaque dedicated to journalist Anna Politkovskaya. This was reported by former municipal deputy Alexander Zamyatin, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Russian propaganda media.
“In Moscow, they smashed the memorial plaque to Anna Politkovskaya on Lisova Street, where she was killed on October 7, 2006, for her work as a journalist and human rights activist,” the former deputy said.
The journalist was shot dead in the elevator of her apartment building. Chechen crime boss and businessman Lom-Ali Gaitukaev was named as the organizer of the crime and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
At the end of 2022, Sergei Khadzhikurbanov, a defendant in the journalist’s murder case, left the colony for a special operation. The convict was pardoned and appointed commander of an intelligence battalion. Khadzhikurbanov’s experience in the special forces probably helped him. In the Politkovskaya case, Sergei Khadzhikurbanov was sentenced to 20 years and was not due to be released until 2034.
