Car with Russian Lieutenant General Sarvarov blown up in Moscow

In Moscow, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, the head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in a car explosion. This was reported by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian propaganda media.
According to the investigation, on the morning of December 22, an improvised explosive device was detonated on Yaseneva Street, which was placed under the bottom of the car. He died as a result of his injuries.
The case was initiated on the grounds of crimes under paragraph “e” of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder committed in a generally dangerous manner) and Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal trafficking in explosives).
On the instructions of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, experienced criminal investigators from the central office were involved in the investigation. The investigation is ongoing, with forensic and explosive examinations being ordered, witnesses and eyewitnesses being questioned, and CCTV footage being studied.
The investigation is considering several versions of what happened, including the possibility of Ukrainian special services’ involvement in organizing the crime.
Sarvarov was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general by presidential decree in 2024.
