This year, various strains of coronavirus infection have been recorded in Ukraine, including the new FliRT strain. Despite the fact that this is a new sub-variant of the Omicron coronavirus, it is still distinguished into a separate category. “During the period from 05.08.2024 to 11.08.2024, COVID-19 was confirmed in 5,898 people, which is 2.3 times higher than the previous week. During the reporting week, 709 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were registered among children under the age of 17, which is 12% of the total number of cases,” the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Centre said.
The largest number of COVID-19 cases was registered in Rivne (intensive rate is 71.0 per 100 thousand people) and Lviv (intensive rate is 47.0 per 100 thousand people) regions.
“As of 19.08.2024, 16 fatalities were registered among people aged 47-86 (9 men and 7 women) who contracted COVID-19. These persons have not received preventive vaccinations against COVID-19 in the last 12 months,” the statement said.
