Russian Foreign Ministry says negotiations with Ukraine are on hold

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are on hold, with no response from Kyiv to Moscow’s proposal. This was stated by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Russian media.

“Today, Kyiv has not responded to the question, to Russia’s proposal for a memorandum of understanding and the creation of separate groups of workers who could work on each track. Therefore, today the mechanism itself, the platform itself, exists, but it is on hold,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

According to him, this is solely because of Ukraine, as it is not ready to answer the questions that have been raised there.

“That is, the negotiation track exists in order to conduct a dialog and achieve some result,” Miroshnyk continued.

He pointed out that the Russian Federation created a mechanism called the Istanbul Format, within the framework of which negotiations with Ukraine were launched and three rounds of talks were held.

“The Russian side has handed over as many documents as possible on humanitarian cooperation and political regulation. Therefore, today the ball is in Kyiv’s court,” the ambassador said.

He added that the negotiation track “will start working at any moment” when there are “real grounds for this.”
