NABU confirms that it searched former deputy Yermak Shurma

NABU Director Semen Kryvonos confirmed that in mid-July, the bureau conducted searches at the home of former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Rostyslav Shurma at his residence near Munich. Semen Kryvonos said this in an interview with Channel 24, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The searches were conducted at Shurma’s place of residence near Munich. According to Kryvonos, the criminal proceedings against Rostyslav Shurma are under investigation. However, he did not comment on the progress of this case.
“We are waiting for some information from German law enforcement within the framework of our international cooperation. In order not to harm this cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies, I will not comment in detail, but I can say that this case is actively moving forward,” Kryvonos said.
on July 25, Ukrayinska Pravda, citing its own sources, reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau had conducted searches at the residence of Rostyslav Shurma, former deputy head of the Presidential Office in charge of economic affairs, in Germany in mid-July.
This happened almost immediately after the resonance around former Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Chernyshev, who was served with a suspicion in the case of corruption in the Ministry of Regional Development.
According to UP, the searches of Shurma’s house allegedly became one of the “last straws” for the president, who a week later signed a law significantly restricting the independence of NABU and SAPO.
What is known about Rostyslav Shurma

A native of Lviv, Rostyslav Shurma graduated from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (Economics and Entrepreneurship) and Kyiv Hetman Economic University (Economic Theory).
He has worked in industry for 15 years. Rostyslav Shurma was a member of the Supervisory Boards of Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol and Promet (Bulgaria), and a member of the Board of Directors of Metinvest-Trametal (Italy). At one time, he headed the strategy department and worked as the financial director of Makiivka Iron and Steel Works.
In 2012-2019, he served as CEO of Zaporizhstal, a steel plant owned by Rinat Akhmetov and Vadym Novynskyi’s Metinvest.
In 2019, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada as a member of the Opposition Bloc party, ranking 6th on the list.
Prior to that, in 2015, he ran for Zaporizhzhia regional and city councils as the first candidate of the Opposition Bloc, but he refused to accept the mandate and headed the party organization in Zaporizhzhia.
Prior to that, in 2010, he was elected to the Donetsk Regional Council of the 6th convocation from the Party of Regions.
In August 2023, Bihus.Info journalists published an investigation into the fact that the State Enterprise “Guaranteed Buyer” paid UAH 320 million for electricity to solar power plants in the temporarily occupied territories. According to the journalists, among them were those belonging, in particular, to the brother of the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Oleh Shurma, and to Ruslan Bozhko, a former subordinate of Rostyslav Shurma.
At the same time, Bihus.Info points out that the electricity paid for probably did not go to the Ukrainian power grid, but the stations received payment under the “green tariff” until the summer of 2023.
In February 2024, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) drew up a report against Rostyslav Shurma. He was accused of using his official powers for his own and his family’s benefit.
The NACP claimed that in 2022, Shurma organized the Electricity Committee at the Office of the President, which met under his chairmanship. The Committee’s meetings included the Ministry of Energy, NPC Ukrenergo, and SE Market Operator.
on September 3, 2024, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Shurma from the post of Deputy Head of the Presidential Office.
At the same time, he moved to Germany as a father of three minor children, where he still lives.
