“He has never had 4%”. Lukashenko speaks about Zelensky’s rating

The self-proclaimed head of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, believes that the United States did the wrong thing when it said that the rating of the President of Ukraine was 4%.

He said this in an interview with American blogger Mario Naufal, according to the pro-government Telegram channel “Pool One,” "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“What kind of statement is this – 4% for Zelensky? He has never had 4%. 14-17%, as it is now, [but] not the 57% he claimed – yes, he does. He will lose the election,” Lukashenko said.

He also touched upon the topic of US pressure on Ukraine regarding the agreement on rare earth minerals. According to him, it is beneficial for Belarus that “Zelensky was shown his place,” but, he continued, “the US position here is not strong.”

What did Trump say about Zelensky’s rating?

US President Donald Trump claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has only a 4% approval rating, which is why he insists on holding elections. According to Trump, the position on elections “is not Russian” but “comes from him and from many other countries.”

In response, Zelenskyy cited the latest poll data from the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), according to which, as of the first half of February 2025, 57% of Ukrainians trust him.

Therefore, according to the Ukrainian president, “if (someone) wants to change me right now, then right now will not work.” He added that the 4% figure is Russian disinformation, and Trump, “unfortunately, lives in this disinformation space.”

What is known about Lukashenko’s rating?

On the eve of the 2020 presidential election in Belarus, a number of independent media outlets tried to find out who readers were ready to vote for.

As a result, the rating of Alexander Lukashenko was very low – about 3%.

The authorities then banned the media from conducting political polls.

Independent social research is also not conducted inside the country.

Pro-government sociologists say that 76.3% of Belarusians trust Alexander Lukashenko, according to data for 2022 from the ECOOM think tank. A year earlier, it was 72%.
