On the night of January 9, the city of Slavutych in the Kyiv region was completely cut off from electricity. The blackout occurred amid a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine, which has been ongoing since the evening of January 8. This was reported by Mayor Yuriy Fomichev on his Telegram channel, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“The city is without power. We are investigating the cause,” the mayor said briefly.
According to him, the attack is taking place in bad weather conditions, and Russian troops are targeting critical energy infrastructure facilities throughout the country.
“I ask everyone to be attentive and cautious. We will keep you informed of any changes. Stay calm and level-headed,” Fomichev added.
Vladimir Zelensky also confirmed the massive attack by Russia on the night of January 9, warning that the enemy is trying to deal a maximum blow to the energy sector during a period of frost and difficult weather conditions. The aggressor’s main goal is to leave Ukrainians without light, heat, and heating.
As of the morning of January 9, explosions were also reported in Lviv. The capital, Kyiv, was also under fire: Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported damage to residential buildings in several areas of the city.
The reasons for the power outage in Slavutych are currently being investigated, and emergency services are working to restore power. City authorities are urging residents to follow official announcements and observe safety rules.
