At least seven people were killed in a train and bus collision near the town of Nove Zamky in southern Slovakia. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Operational Centre of the Rescue Health Service of the Slovak Republic.
The train was travelling from the Czech capital Prague to the Hungarian capital Budapest. It was carrying more than 100 people, including Ukrainians. At the same time, there were eight passengers and a driver on the bus.
At least 7 people died in the collision and at least 5 were injured, several of them in serious condition.
The causes of the accident are currently unknown and the investigation is ongoing. Slovak media reported that the possible causes could be improperly installed barriers and light signals at the crossing, which, according to unverified information, had not been working for three days due to heavy rain.
However, sources in the General Directorate of Czech Railways claim that the fuse at the railway crossing was working, and the bus driver probably did not notice it.
The train driver suffered burns as the locomotive caught fire after the collision.
According to Arriva, the company that owned the bus, the driver was an experienced driver who had been driving since 1988.
