Former Secret Service special agent Clint Hill, who covered President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline with his body during the fatal assassination attempt, has died in the United States at the age of 93.
CNN writes about this with reference to a statement by the US Secret Service, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
They called Hill’s career an example of the highest ideals of public service: “We mourn the loss of a respected colleague and dear friend whose contributions to the agency and the nation will always be remembered.”
On the day of the Kennedy assassination, November 22, 1963, Hill was assigned to guard First Lady Jacqueline. He was riding in a car right behind the limousine where the presidential couple was sitting.
When the shots rang out, he jumped over the back seat of the limousine and pushed the first lady from the trunk to the seat to cover her and the mortally wounded president.
According to the agent himself in an interview many years later, he believed he could have saved Kennedy if he had gotten to the car faster.
“I felt like we had an obligation to protect the president that day, and we failed,” Hill said.
Eventually, at the age of 43, he resigned due to post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the Kennedy assassination.
It should be reminded that the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was shot dead on November 22, 1963, in Dallas. According to the official version, it was done by Lee Harvey Oswald, a Soviet sympathizer, but the circumstances of the assassination remain unclear. The tragedy gave rise to numerous conspiracy theories and became the subject of many books and films.
