US detains migrant for threatening Trump – CNN

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 54-year-old Mexican citizen Ramon Morales Reyes on suspicion of threatening to kill former President Donald Trump. According to the investigation, the man allegedly sent a letter threatening to shoot Trump over his attitude toward Mexican migrants, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
However, CNN sources say that the handwriting in the letter does not match Reyes’, and he is probably not the author of the threats. According to preliminary data, the man could have been deliberately framed to get him deported and thus removed from the case in which he is a victim – we are talking about robbery and assault charges.
ICE detained Reyes the next day after receiving the letter. The service noted that the man is in the United States illegally and has a criminal record, including for fleeing the scene of an accident and disorderly conduct with signs of domestic violence. He will remain in custody until his deportation proceedings are heard.
Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem called the detention an “ICE success” and called on politicians and the media to “tone down the rhetoric” given the growing threats against Trump.
At the same time, police told CNN that they are investigating the incident for identity theft and attempts to intimidate the victim, but no one has been charged so far.
