Minnesota Republican Senator Justin Eichorn has been detained in the United States on charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution. He is known for his proposal to recognize those who criticize US President Donald Trump as mentally ill.
The Guardian writes about this, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to police, Eichorn believed that he was corresponding with an underage girl (according to the Guardian, 17 years old, and according to AP, 16 years old).
In fact, he was talking to police officers who detained him near his car. The senator was subsequently taken into custody on charges of attempting to entice a minor into prostitution.
“If you, as a 40-year-old man, come to an orange jumpsuit neighborhood to have sex with someone’s child, you can be sure we’re going to lock you up,” said Booker Hodges, a local police spokesman.
The Minnesota Republican Party and the Senate Republican caucus called on Eichorn to resign, calling the allegations against him “serious” and “shocking.”
“Justin has a difficult road ahead of him and needs to focus on his family,” the caucus said in a statement.
Eichorn is known for being one of five Republican senators from Minnesota who plan to introduce a bill defining “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
the “symptoms” of this “syndrome” may include verbal hostility to the US president and “open acts of aggression and violence” against his supporters.
With this bill, excessive critics of the US president could be recognized as mentally ill.
