In the center of Kyiv, 15 million stolen from a car near an exchange office

In the capital, almost 15 million hryvnias were stolen from the trunk of a car belonging to a currency exchange office. Law enforcement officers have detained a suspect in the organization of the daring theft, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

What happened:
The theft took place in the center of Kyiv near an exchange office. The criminals cut a hole in the trunk of a car in advance, put a rope through it to open it, and on the day of the crime, blocked the exit from the office and stole a bag of cash.

Who are the suspects:
According to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, a 46-year-old man was notified of suspicion of organizing a crime committed as part of an organized group.
According to Ukrayinska Pravda‘s source, the suspect worked as a district police officer in the 2000s and was later sentenced to 14 years for premeditated murder. He was released from prison in 2015.

Preparation for the crime:
The group acted purposefully – they had been monitoring the movement of funds for almost a year. They knew that large sums were temporarily stored in the trunk of a car near the exchanger.

Court decision:
The court imposed on the suspect a custodial measure of restraint with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 9 million.
