A powerful earthquake struck Turkey: what are the consequences?

An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Turkish province of Balikesir.

This was reported by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to the agency, the tremors occurred in the Sindirgi area at 00:24 local time on January 24.

The epicenter was located approximately 62 kilometers southeast of the province of Balikesir. The depth of the underground tremors was about 11 kilometers.

The population of the region is over 238,000. No official information about casualties or damage has been received. Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu reported on social media that there were no casualties or damage.
