The world’s oldest marathon runner Fauja Singh dies at the age of 114

Fauja Singh, a British-Indian marathon runner who was considered the world’s oldest, has died in India at the age of 114. He was hit by a car while walking in his native village of Beas Pind, Punjab, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

According to theBBC, Singh was crossing the road when he was hit by a car whose driver fled the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died. Police said they were searching for the culprit.

Fauja Singh has become a global symbol of endurance and fortitude. He started running at the age of 89 and ran nine full marathons over the next 13 years. The last time he ran was in 2013, at the age of over 100.

His coach Harmander Singh from the Sikhs In The City club confirmed the death of the legendary athlete:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our symbol of humanity and source of positivity, Fauja Singh, has passed away in India.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, calling Singh “an exceptional athlete with incredible determination.”

Fauja Singh inspired millions of people around the world with his example of active longevity. His marathon career proved that great achievements are possible at any age.
