58 companies associated with sanctioned persons became the property of Ukraine

58 companies owned by collaborators, Russians or people associated with them and supporting the war have become the property of Ukraine over the two years of full-scale war, according to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. This was reported by Opendatabot, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

All these companies were seized by Ukraine through internal sanctions.

Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine Inna Bohatykh noted that the recovery mechanism used by Ukraine is unique in world practice. In such cases, it is important to comply with international norms and national legal requirements so that decisions are not challenged in international courts.

The process of proving the connection of a sanctioned person with specific assets is also complicated. As a rule, in such cases, every effort is made to “disguise” the assets as much as possible, and more and more creative methods are used for this purpose.

“The process of gathering evidence and filing claims is not easy. Consideration of claims in practice is also a lengthy process. For example, we are currently working on a case in which 38 court hearings have already taken place. The Ministry of Justice’s statement of claim with annexes alone consists of 45 volumes. However, the total number of volumes currently under consideration in court is already more than 150, taking into account the evidence submitted by all parties to the process. In general, we can say that 98% of the claims filed for asset recovery are satisfied by the court,”
