Alarms aren’t working for iPhone owners: how to set your alarm correctly
25 January 15:16
Recently, iPhone owners have begun to notice that their alarm clock goes off without sound. Instead, a corresponding message simply appears on the phone screen, accompanied by no melody. If your iPhone alarm clock goes off silently, it is worth checking whether its settings have changed.
Experts from the specialized publication 9TO5Mac explained what could be the cause of this malfunction and how to set the alarm clock to sound. For more information about the possible causes of the lack of sound and ways to solve the problem, read the article "Komersant Ukrainian".
Why the iPhone alarm clock goes off without sound
Apple smartphone users began reporting en masse that their alarms were going off silently and that the alarm sound in the settings had suddenly changed to “None.”

So far, experts have been unable to determine the cause of the malfunction that causes these settings to be reset. However, one theory is that the cause may be that users who have encountered this problem are using “classic” sound options. To rule out this factor, open the Clock app, set the alarm for the desired time, and make sure that a specific melody is selected in the Sound tab, rather than “None.”

Other common reasons why your alarm may be low in volume include the following:
- The notification volume is set too low. In the Settings app, there is a section called Sounds & Haptics. There is a slider that allows you to change the volume of incoming calls, alarms, and other notifications. If you select the “Change with buttons” option, the volume level will change by pressing the volume buttons on the left side of your smartphone.
- The low volume level for the alarm clock is selected in the Sleep | Wake Up section. For alarms set in this section, separate sound settings are available, which can be changed under the sleep graph wheel by going to the Clock app and navigating to the Sleep section.
- The Attention Aware feature is enabled on the device. This is an attention recognition feature using Face ID, available on all modern iPhone models. When enabled, the alarm volume decreases if the smartphone detects that your gaze is directed at the screen. If you leave your phone nearby when you go to bed, this feature may accidentally activate.
Step-by-step instructions: how to set the alarm on your iPhone correctly
Step 1. Check that “None” is not selected in the “Sound” section
- Open “Clock” => “Alarm” tab.
- Tap “Edit” or open a specific alarm from the list.
- Go to “Sound” and make sure that a melody is selected, not “None.”
Step 2. Check the alarm volume in the settings
- Open “Settings” => “Sounds & Haptics.”
- In the “Ringer and alerts volume” section, drag the slider to the desired level.
- If necessary, turn off “Change with buttons” to avoid accidentally changing the alarm volume with the buttons on the case.
Step 3. If you have an alarm set in the “Sleep | Wake Up” section, check certain settings
The Sleep | Wake alarm works as part of your bedtime and wake-up schedule and has separate alarm settings, including volume. In the Health app, you can even choose an option without an alarm, so it’s worth checking that it’s turned on.
Does the alarm clock on the iPhone work in silent mode?
If the alarm is set correctly, the selected melody should sound at the time you set, even if your phone is in silent mode. At the same time, the volume of the alarm depends on the volume level set in the “Sounds & Haptics” section.
