The United School canceled payment for access to electronic diaries

Users of the One School app have gained access to their students’ electronic diaries again without being charged a fee. Previously, parents were forced to sign up for a monthly subscription to see their children’s grades and attendance, which caused a lot of discussion in society.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

After a wave of outrage on social media and numerous appeals to the Ministry of Education and Science, the developers decided to abandon the paid model.

Now all the basic features of the app – viewing grades, schedules, homework, and messages from teachers – are available for free. This allows parents to monitor their children’s education at any time without spending any extra money. Schools also receive a simplified mechanism for communicating with families, which is especially important in wartime and with frequent changes in the educational process.

Children’s education should be free and not dependent on the family’s financial situation. Instead, only additional services that do not affect the basic functionality may be paid for.

Earlier, we reported that the electronic diary “Single School” introduced a subscription for access to its services.

The electronic diary allows parents to see their children’s grades, monitor their homework, and communicate with teachers. It is available as an app for iOS and Android.

However, with the start of the new academic year, parent users noticed that the One School does not provide access without a subscription.

The Ministry of Education and Science reported that there are more than 15 types of electronic class journals and diaries available on the market. Among them, only one is a state development – the electronic system “Mriya”. Mriya is available as an app for parents, students, and teachers. Only teachers and school administrators have access through the Mriya website. “Mriya is free for all participants in the school process.

All other systems are private, so they can be paid for, the Ministry of Education said. Institutions are free to choose which educational information system (EIS) to use for keeping business records, including an electronic classroom journal.

Hetmantsev’s reaction

MP Danylo Hetmantsev confirmed that parents now have to pay 50 hryvnias per month to use the electronic diary.

“The law does not provide for a fee. But if you calculate it over the course of a year, it amounts to a good amount – 2.2 billion hryvnias,” he added.

Hetmantsev emphasized that on Monday, September 8, he will address the author of the idea to monetize the public service with a request. According to him, it looks like a large private operator decided to make money.

“I do not advise parents to rush to pay. Something suggests that he will lose his “business,” he said.
