Unidentified man shoots dead city official in Zaporizhzhia: police search for attacker

In Zaporizhzhia, unidentified persons shot and killed Maksym Denshchyk, the suspended Director of the Legal Support Department. This was reported by the Novyny Zaporizhzhia telegram channel and the National Police.
The shooting took place in the centre of the regional centre. The attacker fired four shots at the victim. The victim died in hospital from his injuries.
The police received a report of the incident at 07:55 am.
“At the entrance of a high-rise building, an unknown person fired shots at a local official with a firearm and fled the scene. The victim was taken to a medical facility where he died during medical care. Investigators opened criminal proceedings over the incident. The legal classification is Part 1 Article 115 (Murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Priority investigative and search activities are underway,”
– the police said.
The police did not disclose the name of the murdered official, but local Telegram channels reported that it was Maksym Denshchik.
Until May of this year, Maksym Denshchik was the director of the Legal Support Department of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, but on 13 May he was temporarily suspended from his duties for the duration of the internal investigation. The internal investigation was expected to last for two months.
“I was suspended from my position, allegedly on the basis of some anonymous letter that I had exceeded my authority in some way,”
– denshchik commented on his suspension to Suspilne at the time.
In early May, Denshchik claimed pressure from the head of the DEC Ivan Fedorov.
“I want to officially declare the pressure on me from the head of the DEC Ivan Fedorov! The latter “nicely” offered me several times to resign from my position of my own free will,”
– the politician wrote at the time.
Today, the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional branch of the All-Ukrainian Union of Voters Ivan Fedorov said that the resonant murder in Zaporizhzhia should not be ignored by the authorities or law enforcement.
“I promptly held a meeting with law enforcement agencies, and the police are conducting investigative and search operations. The investigation of the high-profile murder is under special control. Zaporizhzhia is not a place for criminal disputes. Therefore, together with law enforcement, we will carry out preventive work to eradicate crime in the regional centre,”
– the official said.
