Strike on air defense infrastructure: a facility linked to Almaz-Antey was attacked in Sevastopol
19 March 16:26
On the night of March 19, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a facility that provides repair and maintenance services for Russian air defense systems in occupied Crimea.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The target was the Innovation Center of the Granit production and technical enterprise, which is part of the Russian Almaz-Antey concern.
Why this facility is important
According to the General Staff, the facility is crucial to the functioning of the Russian air defense system on the peninsula.
It is there that:
- anti-aircraft systems are repaired and modernized;
- radar systems are restored;
- equipment that protects occupied Crimea from air attacks is maintained.
In fact, the facility is part of the infrastructure that ensures the combat readiness of Russian air defense on the peninsula.
What equipment is being repaired there
According to Ukrainian sources, the facility maintains a number of key Russian air defense systems, including:
- S-400 Triumph
- S-300PM2 Favorit
- 92N6E and 96L6E radar stations
- Buk-M2 and Buk-M3 medium-range air defense systems
- Tor-M2 short-range system
It is these systems that form the backbone of Russia’s air defense “shield” over Crimea.
Second strike—on military locations
Separately, Ukrainian units attacked a concentration of Russian troops near Striletska Bay in occupied Sevastopol.
Information regarding potential casualties among Russian troops is currently being verified.
Part of a broader campaign of strikes
The General Staff emphasizes that such operations are part of systematic efforts to reduce Russia’s military capabilities.
The goal of such attacks is to:
- to weaken Russian air defense;
- to complicate the repair and maintenance of military equipment;
- to reduce Russia’s ability to defend military facilities in occupied territories.
Earlier reports also mentioned drone attacks in Sevastopol targeting facilities linked to the Almaz-Antey concern, which manufactures most of Russia’s air defense systems.
