As a result of a Russian missile strike on a Kharkiv TV tower, there is no digital broadcasting signal in the city and nearby settlements. This was announced by the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleg Sinegubov, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

Sinegubov said that the total height of the tower before the hit was 250 metres.

“The strike was at an altitude of about 140 metres. The technical rooms were damaged. Experts are analysing the extent of damage to television equipment,”

– said the head of the military administration.

According to Sinegubov, as a result of the shelling, there is no digital broadcasting signal in Kharkiv and the nearest settlements

“Kharkiv residents can connect cable and satellite TV. Radio, internet and mobile communications are working,”

– he said.

It is also reported that an X-59 missile hit the Kharkiv TV tower.

Ilya Yevlasha, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Air Force, said that the attack on the TV tower was not accidental.

“I don’t think it could have happened by chance (the hit – Ed.). And inside the tower. I think the enemy intended to cut off communication, spread its Russian propaganda signal and limit the broadcasting of Ukrainian programmes,”

– he stressed.

Ivan Sokol, Director of the Civil Protection Department of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, told Radio Liber ty that it would be possible to restore the TV tower only after the end of hostilities.

However, after the damaged equipment is dismantled, experts will assess the possibility of rebuilding the TV tower.

“Taking into account the way it (the TV tower – ed.) was built, its restoration is possible after the end of hostilities,”

– said the CMA representative.

Asked whether it was an accidental missile hit or a targeted attack on the TV tower, Sokol said it was an attempt to intimidate the city’s residents:

“In my personal opinion, it was an attempt to intimidate the population of Kharkiv and the nearest settlements. Imagine, in broad daylight at 16:40, a missile attack was launched on the tower, which is the tallest building in the city of Kharkiv. Of course, it worried people a bit. I think this strike was aimed at intimidating the population of the Kharkiv region.”
