A blow to “Okhmatdet”: how the children’s hospital will be restored

The state will completely rebuild the hospital “Okhmatdet”. About it reports "Komersant Ukrainian" citing a statement by Ukrainian Prime Minister Dmytro Shmygal at a government meeting on Tuesday, 9 July.

According to him, 100 million hryvnias will be allocated for the full restoration of the medical centre in the first place, and further – the funding will be increased. The work will start already now.

In addition, each family with children will be allocated assistance in the amount of UAH 10,800 for each family member.

Shmygal emphasised that the clinic will be rebuilt in full, and the work will begin immediately, although the reconstruction project has not yet been approved.

What is happening in the children’s hospital “Okhmatdet” after the shelling

As of 9 July, the rescuers of the State Emergency Situations Service have completed search and rescue operations at the site of the missile attack of the Russian Armed Forces. The territory of “Okhmatdet”, except for the destroyed building, has been cleared.

Ambulance teams transferred 94 children from the Okhmatdet hospital to other medical institutions. Of these, 8 were injured.

Meanwhile, according to the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov, Ukrainians have already collected 250 million hryvnias to rebuild the Okhmatdet hospital.

Okhmatdet is the largest children’s hospital in Ukraine, where more than 20 thousand children from all over the country are treated annually. The rocket completely destroyed the toxicology building and damaged 4 more. 10 surgical wards, 5 oncology wards, 2 somatic wards, intensive care, 2 intensive care units, 2 intensive care units, operation blocks, radiology and radiation therapy department, part of the oncohematology laboratory (the only one in the country) were damaged.
