Attack on the Slovyansk railway: depot workers injured, infrastructure damaged
31 March 15:42
Russian troops have struck the railway infrastructure in the city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region.
This was reported by Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba and the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to their reports, the attack damaged railway infrastructure facilities, including a locomotive depot, and partially shattered windows in the train station building.
Injured depot workers
During the attack, railway workers took cover.
However, four employees of the locomotive depot were injured as a result of the strike.
One of the female employees is in critical condition. All the injured have been hospitalized and are receiving the necessary medical care.
Nighttime attack on the city
On the night of March 31, Russian forces also carried out an airstrike on Sloviansk.
At least three civilians, including a child, were injured in the attack.
Railways under fire
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, Russian troops are systematically attacking Ukrainian railway infrastructure.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, approximately 5,000 attacks on railway facilities have been recorded.
Moreover, in just a few months of this year, over 10% of all strikes occurred during this period, indicating an increase in the intensity of attacks.
How they are trying to protect trains
According to railway officials, comprehensive solutions have already made it possible to protect some trains from drone strikes.
However, fully protecting infrastructure along the front line remains a difficult task.
To protect all trains within 30–60 km of the front line, dozens of electronic warfare (EW) modules must be installed on each one.
