Attacks on Russian oil infrastructure: Ilya refinery under attack

On the night of January 1, Ukraine’s armed forces attacked the Ilya oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai with drones. The falling debris “caused a fire on an area of 25 m²,” the region’s operational headquarters reported. It added that no one was injured and the fire was extinguished in the morning. In addition, the attack damaged two private houses in the village of Siverskaya, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian propaganda media.
A video of the attack on the refinery with a strong fire and thick black smoke was posted online. The Ilya refinery belongs to the Kuban Oil and Gas Company and is one of the largest oil refineries in southern Russia. The enterprise includes six processing units with a total capacity of 6.6 million tons per year. It was repeatedly targeted by Ukraine during the war. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that this refinery is “involved in the supply of the Russian armed forces.”
Also, closer to midnight on December 31, drones struck an oil depot in Lyudinovo, Kaluga region. The head of the municipal district, Gennady Ananiev, reported a “fire at an industrial enterprise.”
On the morning of January 1, drones attacked a Tatneft fuel storage facility in Almetyevsk, Tatarstan. Local authorities reported a strike on the tank farm. “As a result of the fall of debris on the territory of the oil technological system facility, the downed UAV caught fire,” said the head of the Almetyevsk district, Guzel Khabutdinova. She added that the fire was extinguished at noon, as it “did not affect the equipment’s performance,” and there were no casualties.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on the Ilya oil refinery.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on the night of January 1, air defense forces shot down 168 Ukrainian drones, including 25 over the Krasnodar Territory and seven over the Kaluga Region. The ministry did not mention the attack on Tatarstan.
