The Slavneft-Yanos refinery in the Yaroslavl region of Russia, located about 250 km from Moscow, has stopped producing fuel after a Ukrainian drone attack on Friday, December 12. Reuters reported this with reference to industry sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
What exactly was damaged
According to the agency’s interlocutors, the fire disabled the AVT-4 unit, which provides about a third of the plant’s production capacity. The oil loading rack was also damaged, making it impossible to continue shipping products.
What we know about Slavneft-YANOS
“Slavneft-YANOS is one of the five largest refineries in Russia and is owned by Rosneft and Gazprom. According to The Moscow Times, in 2024, the refinery produced 2.6 million tons of gasoline, 4 million tons of diesel fuel, and 4.7 million tons of fuel oil. The shutdown is the second time a major refinery in Russia has been shut down in December.
A week earlier, Syzran refinery suspended oil refining due to a drone attack
A week earlier, Rosneft’s Syzran refinery with an annual capacity of 8.5 million tons suspended oil refining due to a drone attack. This indicates increased pressure on Russia’s fuel infrastructure in the interior of the country.
It is not yet known how long the shutdown of Slavneft-YANOS will last and when the refinery will be able to resume full operations. However, a series of attacks is already forcing Russia to reallocate resources to repair and protect key energy sector facilities, which could affect the domestic fuel market and export opportunities.
Earlier, long-range drones of the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center hit the Filanovsky oil production platform owned by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.
