Hungary is ready to become a platform for possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Budapest will continue to support the peace initiatives of US President Donald Trump. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said this during a visit to St. Petersburg, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Russian media.
According to him, Hungary has previously advocated for an early ceasefire and the start of a dialogue between Ukraine and Russia.
“We are ready for this. I once called Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, and I told them that Hungary is ready to accept any negotiations. The offer is still in force, we have not withdrawn it,” Szijjarto said.
He noted that Hungary would continue to support Trump’s peace initiatives.
According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, stability in the region can only be achieved through “an agreement between Russia and the United States.”
In addition, during his visit to Russia, Szijjarto said that Budapest opposes Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union, considering it a risky step for the EU itself.
