“Evader and karma”: Bezugla sparks outrage with statement about Kyiv resident killed in rubble
18 June 13:29
Ukrainians are outraged by the words of MP Mariana Bezuhla, who called the young man killed in a Russian strike in Kyiv a “dodger” and said it was allegedly “karma.” The man in question is Dmytro Isayenko, a 31-year-old master’s student at the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University who died under the rubble of a destroyed high-rise building in the Solomyansky district, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
The guy whose fate was followed by the whole country
Dmytro’s story shook Ukraine. His mom and dad spent the whole day near the destroyed building, praying for their son’s salvation. The photos of the parents, who did not leave the scene of the tragedy, spread across social networks and the media and became a symbol of pain, hope, and despair.
According to the university’s Facebook page, Dmytro was a 1st year master’s student at the Faculty of Physical Education, Sports and Health.
He was majoring in Physical Education and Sports (Human Health and Physical Recreation).
“This is a guy whose fate was followed by the whole country. The one whose parents stood near the ruins of the destroyed house and waited for their son, prayed and did not leave… We all prayed with them. Their photos went around the world. But the miracle did not happen,” the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University said in a statement.

Dmytro was cheerful, kind, and sincere.

“It’s karma”: MP’s reaction caused a flurry of criticism
Against the backdrop of nationwide grief, a commentary by MP from the Servant of the People party Mariana Bezuhla appeared on social media, writing:
“He was mowing from the army, but ‘karma’.”

These words caused outrage among Ukrainians. Social media users called this reaction cynical, inhuman, and deeply immoral.
Under her words, Ukrainians are leaving comments en masse, calling for humanity:
“Cynical. I wouldn’t wish anyone to lose a child”, “With all the disrespect for the evaders, there should be a minimum of respect for the grief of parents”, “You are a fool…”, “Logically, everyone who does not serve should die? Or what?”, “Is this what this post will do? Even more polarization of society. Isn’t it clear that such posts work to deepen the split?”
In response, Bezugla said:
“I’m sorry, I’m on the side of hundreds of thousands of soldiers whose rights are of no particular interest to anyone. They die every day, in particular because of stupid decisions, but there is silence. They need to be changed, supported, and enlisted in the army, but…”

The tragedy of the night of June 17
Russia attacked Kyiv on the night of June 17. One of the shells hit a nine-story residential building in the Solomyansky district. Dmytro was inside. His parents waited near the ruins all day. There was even false information on the Internet that the boy had been rescued – but this was later denied. In the evening, the State Emergency Service officially confirmed that Dmytro Isayenko’s body had been unblocked from the rubble.
In the footage published by TSN, the grieving parents can be seen falling to their knees when they received the fatal news.
