It is worth noting that Vladyslav Dubinchak was not included in the application from the players who are in Baku.

Head coach’s comments

At the pre-match press conference, Ukraine’s head coach Serhii Rebrov denied expectations of an easy victory over the opponent. When asked whether his team would win an easy victory against a “very weak team,” the coach emphasized the seriousness of the approach to the match.

The Ukrainian coach emphasized that he does not consider the Azerbaijani national team to be a weak team:

“I watched the matches, in particular the first half against Iceland, and I don’t think the Azerbaijani national team played very poorly. They acted in an organized manner, but, unfortunately, did not create chances.”

Tournament position

The match is part of the qualifying cycle for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Ukrainian national team is trying to secure a place at the World Cup after missing the World Cup in Qatar.

In the first round, Ukraine lost to France 0-2, and Azerbaijan lost to Iceland 0-5.
