Ukraine’s men’s national team won the European Chess Championship in Batumi, Georgia. This was reported by the Chess Federation of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
In the final, 9th round, the Ukrainian men’s team defeated England and confidently won gold medals.
During the tournament, the Ukrainians confidently defeated the current European champions, the Serbian national team, as well as the teams from Germany and the Netherlands. In total, they have seven wins, one draw and only one defeat.
The champion team included Ruslan Ponomarev, Andriy Volokitin, Anton Korobov, Ihor Kovalenko, and Ihor Samunenkov. These athletes brought Ukraine another historic victory.




This is not the first triumph of Ukrainian chess players at the continental level – the last time they climbed to the top step of the podium was in 2021.
At the same time, the women’s national team of Ukraine also showed a brilliant result – our athletes won silver at the European Championship.
Yulia Osmak, Anna Ushenina, Inna Gaponenko, Natalia Zhukova, and Bozhena Piddubna played for the team.
