Ukraine is preparing concrete steps to recover $6.9 billion from Russia in accordance with international arbitration decisions.

This was announced on Sunday, July 20, by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

He held a meeting with the head of Naftogaz Ukraine, Serhiy Koretsky, to discuss ways to enforce arbitration awards in favor of Ukraine.

“At present, we already have several positive decisions of international arbitrations totaling $6.9 billion. These are absolutely fair decisions that demonstrate the responsibility of Russia and Gazprom and affirm the strength of international law. We are preparing concrete steps to recover these funds, and tomorrow Ukrainian ambassadors will receive the relevant instructions,” Zelensky wrote on social media.

In June, the International Arbitration Tribunal ordered Russia’s Gazprom to pay $1.37 billion to Naftogaz for services for organizing gas transportation through Ukraine, for which the company did not pay.

Earlier, in April 2025, a French court authorized the enforcement of five billion dollars from Russia in favor of Naftogaz. Earlier, the Hague Arbitration Tribunal ruled that Russia should pay this amount for the damage caused by the illegal expropriation of Naftogaz’s assets in Crimea.
