2 February 23:44

Ukrainian officials are already on their way to a new round of negotiations involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia, which will take place on February 4–5 in Abu Dhabi. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an evening address, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the head of state, the Ukrainian team continues to work actively with American partners so that concrete decisions for peace can be scaled up and not remain merely declarations.

Negotiation formats: trilateral and bilateral

The president specified that the planned meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and will include not only a trilateral format, but also separate bilateral talks between Ukraine and the US.

“Today there was a meeting with our delegation – the guys are already on their way. The meetings will take place on Wednesday and Thursday. And not only in a trilateral format, but also in a bilateral format with America,” Zelensky said.

He stressed that a number of key issues need to be agreed with the American side, particularly in the areas of security and post-war development of the state.

Security guarantees and Ukraine’s recovery

The head of state said that Ukraine is ready to discuss security guarantees, and the issues of the country’s recovery and further development are already the focus of the Ukrainian teams’ work.

“We are ready for security guarantees. Officials are working on the restoration and further development of Ukraine, and our teams are actively engaged in this,” the president emphasized.

At the same time, Zelensky noted that strong support for dialogue from the US is extremely important so that Russian terror does not disrupt the agreements that can be reached at the negotiating table.

Zelensky set the task for the negotiating team before his trip to Abu Dhabi

Earlier, Zelensky held a meeting with the negotiating team ahead of a new round of trilateral meetings scheduled for this week.

“Almost all members of the negotiating team were present at the meeting, namely Rustem Umerov, Kirill Budanov, Serhiy Kyslytsya, Andriy Gnativ, and Oleksandr Bevz. Davyd Arakhamia will also participate in the negotiations. I agreed with the team on the framework for the talks and specific tasks. The Ukrainian delegation will also have bilateral meetings with the American side. Ukraine is ready for real steps We believe that it is possible to achieve a dignified and lasting peace,” the president said.

The president stressed that Ukraine is ready for real steps and counts on the support of the US in ensuring the necessary conditions for dialogue. Zelensky also added that the de-escalation measures, which actually took effect last Friday night, are helping to build people’s trust in the negotiation process and its possible outcome.

Negotiations in Abu Dhabi: what is known about the previous round

The planned meetings will be the second round of negotiations between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi). After the first round, the official results were not publicly announced.

At the same time, a so-called “energy truce” came into effect on January 30. Initially, information about it appeared in the form of rumors, but later US President Donald Trump said that he had asked Russian leader Vladimir Putin to stop attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.

Attacks on energy infrastructure and the position of the parties

On February 2, the Ministry of Energy reported that Russian occupiers had resumed strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. At the same time, President Zelensky clarified that no targeted attacks on energy facilities had been recorded.

According to the Ukrainian side, Russia has repeatedly rejected the idea of a complete ceasefire. Moscow continues to insist on transferring the entire territory of Donetsk Oblast under its control, which remains unacceptable to Ukraine.
