Due to Russia’s targeted attacks on gas production facilities, domestic companies cannot fully meet the country’s needs for natural gas. So this year, Ukraine has returned to the practice of importing gas from Europe. This was stated by Artem Petrenko, Executive Director of the Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine, in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
“In the context of the war, over the past two years, Ukraine has been almost entirely self-sufficient in domestically produced gas. This year, unfortunately, the situation has changed. Due to Russian attacks, Ukraine is forced to import gas to prepare for the heating season. This is the job of the Government and Naftogaz, and they are successfully working on this issue. In terms of numbers, Ukraine will have to import 4 to 5 billion cubic meters of gas, and it is already importing it,” he said.
The expert clarified that the main gas suppliers to Ukraine are neighboring countries: Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
Petrenko also added that Ukraine should accumulate 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas by the beginning of the heating season.

“As of early September, gas reserves in our underground storage facilities are slightly more than 11 billion cubic meters,” Petrenko said.
