Ukraine has restricted the import of goods from Hungary: what is known

Ukraine has temporarily banned the import of animal products from Hungary in connection with the registration of cases of bluetongue. This was reported by the Eastern Interregional Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
What is prohibited
According to the European Union and the World Organization for Animal Health, the ban applies to
- live animals susceptible to the bluetongue virus,
- genetic material from these animals.
Similar restrictions have already been in place
This is not the first case of such decisions.
on July 23, Ukraine imposed a ban on the import of animals from Belgium, and on August 20 – from Morocco, where cases of the disease were also recorded.
What animals are affected
Bluetongue (blue tongue) affects sheep, goats, white-tailed deer, buffalo, antelope, elk, and other ruminants.
Signs of the disease
Symptoms in infected animals include
- fever,
- excessive salivation
- swelling of the lips,
- lesions of the oral mucosa,
- blue tongue,
- conjunctivitis,
- redness and gangrene of the teats.
Experts emphasize that timely quarantine measures are necessary to prevent the spread of the virus in Ukraine.
