Ukraine has received nearly $1.3 billion from the Japanese government under the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine project. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“The funds have been credited to the general fund of the state budget and are being directed toward social expenditures. This is the second tranche from Japan, financed under the G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine mechanism. Its total volume amounts to $50 billion,” Svyrydenko noted.

According to her, since February 2022, budgetary support from Japan has exceeded $10.7 billion, of which more than $2.7 billion has come in the form of grants.

“We thank the Government of Japan for the grant, as well as the World Bank for effectively coordinating international support. This assistance is extremely important for ensuring Ukraine’s financial stability,” Svyrydenko wrote.

Japan’s Aid to Ukraine

As a reminder, in January, Japan announced the allocation of $6 billion to Ukraine for humanitarian and technical support in 2026.

It was also reported that Japan intends to join a NATO initiative that allows for the supply of U.S.-made ammunition, equipment, and other resources to Ukraine.

The PEACE Project is the World Bank’s main financial instrument for Ukraine, enabling other donors to join forces to provide rapid, targeted, and predictable support.

The World Bank Group has mobilized over $37.5 billion in emergency financing to support the people of Ukraine, including commitments and guarantees from donor countries such as the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, Latvia, Iceland, and Belgium.
