Ukraine starts using Sapsan missiles: what are the consequences for the enemy
10 December 01:19
For the first time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially confirmed that Ukraine has begun using its own Sapsan ballistic missiles. This is an important stage in Ukraine’s missile program and a significant signal to Russia, as Sapsan is the most powerful Ukrainian missile known. He said this in a commentary to journalists, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
“We have started.” Zelensky confirms the use of Ukrainian missiles
The President said that Ukraine is actively using a number of its own missile systems:
“Ukraine is already using Neptunes, Long Neptunes, Palyanytsi, Flamingo, and Sapsan. To be honest, we have started,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, the head of state deliberately did not disclose the number of missiles fired or the details of the operations:
“We don’t want the enemy to know all the precedents and all the details,” the president explained.
Why the use of Sapsan is an important strategic step
“The Sapsan is a Ukrainian ballistic missile capable of carrying 480 kg of explosives, which is more than twice as powerful a warhead as the US ATACMS.
This gives Ukraine the ability to
- hit targets at long distances,
- to strike harder at the military infrastructure of the Russian Federation,
- destroy enemy warehouses, headquarters, logistics hubs, and air defense.
Experts suggest that the range of the missile can reach up to 300 miles (about 482 km). Although Ukraine does not officially disclose its characteristics, journalists and analysts confirm that the Sapsan is capable of flying at speeds of over Mach 5 (five times faster than sound).
How other Ukrainian missiles work
Zelensky specifically mentioned Neptunes, which have repeatedly proven their effectiveness:
“Neptunes work really well. And there are many moments when the enemy believes that they have been used. Let them continue to think so.”
The development of this line includes:
- “classic Neptune”
- “long Neptunes” – versions with extended range,
- new experimental modifications.
The Ukrainian defense industry is demonstrating that it is capable of producing high-precision and long-range weapons that can make a significant difference at the front.
